Optimal energy management of a hybrid system with hydrogen storage

Abstract

The transition toward sustainable energy systems has increased interest in hydrogen as a clean energy carrier and in renewable-powered hydrogen refueling stations. However, the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources requires advanced control strategies to ensure reliable and cost-effective operation. This work presents a Model Predictive Control (MPC)-based Energy Management System for a hybrid station integrating photovoltaic panels, wind turbines, a PEM electrolyzer, hydrogen storage, a PEM fuel cell and grid connection. [3], [4] The findings demonstrate the effectiveness of MPC as an intelligent energy management solution for renewable-powered hydrogen refueling stations, contributing to the integration of hydrogen technologies into future sustainable energy systems.
